EOZEN signs an agreement with the Portuguese group, Perform 3, for the supply of wind turbines for a 12 MW wind energy farm.
EOZEN, an Andalusian company which manufactures wind turbines and large blades for the wind energy sector, has closed a deal for the supply of wind turbines with the Portuguese group, Perform 3 Parques Eólicos Lda.
EOZEN will supply 8 of its 1.5 MW wind turbines to install a 12 MW wind farm on the island of Madeira in the first half of 2009, for a value of 13.7 million Euros. This first development in the Portuguese market will allow EOZEN to further expand into the international market.
Perform 3 has been the forerunner in the Portuguese wind energy market, with wind farms in operation since 1991. The Portuguese company has an ambitious plan to expand in the Portuguese market, with a project portfolio of 90 MW. It also has another 150 MW in development in other European countries.
After signing the agreement, Aurelio Tavares, managing partner of Perform 3 Parques Eólicos, stated: “The reason why we chose EOZEN for expanding and redeveloping this wind farm on the island of Madeira is due to its reliable and innovative technology, which will contribute to the stability of the grid.”
Meanwhile, Manuel Alguacil, president of EOZEN, showed his satisfaction with the start of operations in the Portuguese market, stating: “The entry into Portugal has been a new opportunity to demonstrate the virtues of direct-drive synchronous generators in comparison to conventional technology. Perform 3 selected the EOZEN wind turbines for their high reliability and low maintenance, as the best option for their wind energy projects in areas with weak grids".
These wind turbines will produce environmentally friendly energy, have no pollutant waste due to the fact that they do not have a gear box, and do not use lubricating oils or any cooling fluids as cooling occurs passively from the air. For the first 20 years of operation for these 12 MW, electricity production will amount to 637,000 MW/h, at a fixed cost of 4.1 ctm€/kWh, and will prevent burning 43,000 Tonnes of Oil Equivalent (TOE), emitting 300,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere and recycling some 112,000 litres of mineral oil.
EOZEN technology selected for its contribution to stability in the electrical grid.
These synchronous generators contribute to the stability of the electrical grid, especially in areas with weak grids, as can be the case on islands.
EOZEN wind turbines meet the strictest grid connection standards as they have sufficient capacity to cover voltage dips connected to a grid which has fallen, contributing voltage and strength to its working capacity for the duration of the dip, therefore supporting the stability of the electrical grid.
EOZEN continues with its expansion plans in the national and international markets.
Closely following its business plan, EOZEN has already begun international expansion through a supply contract with the Indian company Regen Powertech Private Limited, for the construction of a wind farm in the Karnataka state (South India). More than 300 MW have been installed in Germany, Canada, China, India, Poland, Bulgaria and Pakistan using EOZEN technology. In the national market, EOZEN is set to soon supply Iberdrola Renovables with 10 of its 1.5 MW wind turbines.
